I saw Robert Shields over at Gatehouse of Fleet in 2008,and thought him to be an excellent singer and musician. This link is him performingThe Quiet Man ,and here You do something to me
I've seen the Sensational Mary Barclay Band twice now.Fabulous music. This is a clip of her performing Black Velvet from an appearance at a Gala day in Castle Douglas in 2008.

This is a copy of the item from The Galloway Gazette.

Concert fund-raiser for Africa mercy trip

A NIGHT of top quality music is set to take place at The Cinema, Newton Stewart.

The concert features three bands;
Shields, Life 0' Reilly and Mary Barclay Band, all local to south-west Scotland and all giving their time and talent voluntarily for this excellent cause.

Tara Projects, the charity behind the concert, is dedicated to the memory of a young girl from Ireland called Tara Lane who died of cancer at the age of 17.
Tara remained upbeat and positive to the end. During her many stays in hospital she spent a lot of time raising awareness of the lack of stimulating activities for teenagers in the same situation.
Tara succeeded in persuading local IT companies to donate lap-tops and games to try and make the stay of youngsters in hospital just a little more bearable.
After her death, friends and family were inspired by Tara to establish "Tara Projects" with the aim of improving the
lives of other young people. In October 2008, Tara's father, Tom and a friend, Derek Hayden, travelled to Kibera in Nairobi, to visit one of the worst slums in Africa.
The object was to meet Mama Tunza, who looks after 80 orphaned children in desperate poverty. The children live with her in a tin shack which consists of two rooms with no sanitary facilities, electricity or running water.

In May a group of 28 people, mostly tradesmen, are travelling to Kibera to build a new home for these children, to allow them to have a chance of a more positive life.
This group will include Veronica Johnston, a family member from Newton Stewart. All the funds raised from the event will pay for building materials to build the children's new hom'e.

West Sound DJ Bruce McKenzie will host the event on Sunday 29th March at 7.30pm., featuring....
Shields - a three-piece band, keyboards, bass and drums.Their music is influenced by Muse, Coldplay, Bowie and Eiton John.
The Life 0' Reilly - in existence since the late 1990s, playing throughout the region and further afield. The band plays most Saturday nights at the Crown Hotel in Portpatrick.
Mary Barclay's Band - comprises of singer Mary Barclay, guitarist Doug Carroll and bass player Donald Cowie. The Sensational Mary Barclay Band have spent the past 14 years learning their craft and honing their skills.
Frank Birkett, local musician from the band "Route 66", will provide the sound for the night.
Tickets are £5 and available from The Cinema (01671 403333) and The Newsagents in Newton Stewart or directly from the organiser, Veronica Johnston, who can be contacted on 01671 403462 (evenings and weekends).
