George at the back of the shed - One large arachnid

I've no doubt a lot of people will dispute this, but after being told as a youngster that all spiders are called George, I still believe it.
Anyway I took a load of pictures after seeing this chappie/lassie at the back of my shed. These are about the best.

The wind and rain must have made him/her shift overnight because there was no sign of the web or George this morning.

  2. That's one heck of a colourful "George" you have there Jim! I reckon it's a lady for sure, so it's a "Georgie-girl" Can you identify the pretty thing?

    1. Araneus diadematus or British garden spider Rose. Definitely a lady, apparently they grow to almost twice the size of their male counterparts.
I hope she's found a nice new home, the wind and rain overnight obviously shifted her.
