Galloway Forest Park

It's Tuesday the 18th of November here in Galloway.
Isn't it great news that we've got 'Dark Sky' status. The only one outside the USA.

But of course there's more than just trees in the forest park.
We've some wonderful stretches of water. Here's some i've photographed this last week. This is Loch Grannoch,i took a walk up there today.
On my way to Loch Grannoch, this view back to Clatteringshaws Loch.
A nicer sky on Thursday saw me taking a hike to the Loch of the Lowes.
This is the Old Mill Dam at Glenamour, but it's affectionately known as Little Glenamour Loch

Over the treetops is Craignelder on the left, and Cairnsmore of Fleet on the right.
And one of our resident feathered friends keeps one eye peeled.

Glenamour and Barnclaugha

Glenamour Loch

Wednesday the 22nd of October 2008.It was a nice morning and it came to mind i'd like to revisit Glenamour.A pleasant walk up to the loch, and the first view i got was of this Whooper Swan.

I had it in mind i might get some good panoramas today, and i think i did.

As well as the CleVR productions the pictures can be enlarged by clicking on them.

Moving over to the east, i began climbing Craignine hill with this view behind me.

The sheep were initially curious, but soon moved away.

Cairnsmore was topped with cloud, the cattle paused in their grazing to eye me up.

Barncaughla

Now viewing Barncaughla farm this is one mighty rock.I wonder if it ever had any significance.

Another view of Barncaughla Farm on the route of the old Edinburgh Road above Glenamour near Newton Stewart in Southwest Scotland.

Barncaughla Farm was the birthplace in 1669 of John McMillan,a well known member of the cloth during the days of the Covenanters.

It's become cold and overcast as i head back to the carpark, but i'm glad i came up here today.

Glenkiln

I had reason to travel to Dumfries today Monday 28th of July.
Returning west i took a little detour to the Glenkiln Reservoir northwest of Shawhead to take these pictures.
Hopefully they'll cheer up a dear friend who's having a very rough time at the moment.

This is a Rodin sculpture of John the Baptist. We've always known it by my fathers name for it'The Rude Man'.Remember kids?

I could have quite easily jumped in here today.Last time there was a salmon fisherman wading in the loch.

And here is a Henry Moore sculpture that goes by the name 'King and Queen'.
There are more sculptures around, but today i only photographed these two.

Lough Keenaghan

On my recent Ireland trip i was looking for somewhere to relax and drink some coffee from my flask.

About 3 miles north of Belleek in County Fermanagh i came across Lough Keenaghan.
A beautiful little spot.

Glenamour Loch and Loch Dee

The last few days i've been drawn to water.
Glenamour Loch is a short walk from the car park, but well worth a visit.

This is a view taken from just above the loch.

Sitting quietly on the edge of the loch i was soon serenaded by wonderful bird song...

...while watching the hundreds of tadpoles swimming around.

The next stretch of water is the lovely Loch Dee.
A little longer walk this time.
Starting from the Craigencallie Outdoor Centre it's a two and a half mile walk to the loch.

A circular stone walled sheep pen on the way.(at least that's what i think it is).

The Black Water of Dee running through the forest.

I wonder what happens at midnight?

At the loch the centrepiece is the small island with two trees on it.

Wearing my 'Chic Murray' hat i even get myself in the picture.
I sat here for a good half an hour watching the sun shimmering of the water.
A relaxing YouTube video is on the way.
